THE POWER OF INTENTION
So often in the past, I've intended to pick up a new habit in order to reinvent myself. Emerging as this cool, stylish new self. A lot of the time this intention came from a place of low self worth, thinking that if only I was a little more 'x' and a little less 'y' I'd be cooler, earning more or ultimately -- feel better about myself. It's no crime to have these thoughts, they are a really natural part of the desire to evolve. But, it's important to have clarity on our intention of self work and checking in to see if it’s coming from internal or external motivations.
Internal motivations = seeking out things to change our internal world
External motivations = seeking out things to change our external world
They sound similar, but there is a really clear distinction. Our external environment is a direct reflection of whats happening inside our minds. So trying to change the world around us is pointless if we don't first change our internal world. The things we externally want to see in our lives (which are amazing things and experiences to have) are a product of working on our internal world.
See the difference? If we seek out self work in order to try change our environment, we're kind of approaching it back to front. As an example: I remember seeking out manifestation work in order to try and manifest a new job or self image. I sat wishing and wanting and waiting to see things change around me -- instead of sitting down and doing the work internally to make that my reality. Setting how I felt about myself as the goal rather than the world's response. I promise you -- its much less about what you have, and much more about how you feel. Intentions help us to direct our focus on the feeling rather than the attaining element of self work.
So with that in mind: Let's set an intention for this workshop. You can write these out in a journal or in your phone. Try to keep a specific place for all your reflections during this workshop, so you can return to it in the future.
1. How would you like to feel at the end of this workshop?
2. What would be an internal measure of a success? (something changed about your internal world or habits)
3. Close your eyes and visualise how it would feel to have remained consistent with this new practice for the month.
INTENTION MEDITATION:
This is a meditation you can return to daily (preferably first thing in the morning) during the duration of this course or whenever you feel called to. It's a powerful little practice that helps to direct our daily focus towards a goal we set, rather than being left to the winds of the day's circumstances. It's also a great practice to rewire our minds to behave in a way that's conducive to our growth and wellbeing.
