BODY SCAN MEDITATION

One of the main reasons I started the membership was to share tools that have significantly impacted my life for the better. When I started exploring the arena of self work -- journaling and meditation were really foreign to me. I still remember sitting down for my first meditation at around 20, prompted by a phone call with my mum during a panic attack. I was completely overwhelmed, my energy felt static and felt like the world was closing in on me. My mum prompted me to focus on my breath and search for a short meditation on youtube. I ended the call and apprehensively typed in a 3 minute meditation, closed my eyes and began. The immediate relief was surreal, as soon as I focused solely on my breathing, the noise of my mind began to settle. I opened my eyes and felt renewed. 

In order to kick off our workshop, I wanted to start with a simple yet powerful body scan meditation. The theme of this week is taking inventory -- that means, becoming aware of how things are right now. With that information, we can assess which areas of our lives we can focus on in order to show up more authentically as ourselves. Taking inventory can be an emotional experience, because we might notice things that we haven't taken the time to acknowledge yet. There may be latent emotions that are waiting for you to witness them and that may bring up new emotions in the present moment. If this happens, I want you to know that it is a perfectly natural and healthy response. In fact, it's a great thing. It means that you are cleansing yourself of what may be stuck so that you can make room for the new. 

The following is a short + sweet meditation to scan our bodies and become aware of where we may be carrying tension or emotion. In the meditation we breathe into the space in order to address and purge any of this stagnant energy. 

This is a practice you can return to each and every morning of this month, or whenever you feel intuitively called to release tension.
